A processor is any entity that processes data on behalf of another entity under its directions.

Types of entities:

• natural or legal persons
• public authority
• an agency
• any other body

Essential elements to determine:

• the entity must be separate from the controller (entity on whose behalf data is processed

  And

• the entity processes personal data on behalf of the controller (not for itself)

Some entities that can be processors

• A company within a group of companies can be a processor for another company within that group

Entities that cannot be processors

• A department within the same company cannot be a processor for another department or for the company
